Real-Time Commentary Example

By Lawrence

(Note: This is just a repost of an existing article to make room for the better explanation article, Real-Time Commentaries: What It Is and What It Is Not)

I post my thoughts in the Daily Commentary section whenever I am monitoring the market. These commentaries are posted and can been seen on your screen in real-time. From my experience, the hardest part in learning to trade is to see how the thought process works. I hope what I am doing here can bridge the gap.

An example of what I posted in real-time when visualized on a chart

Here is the chart of Emini S&P on Nov 29, 2010 with my comments marked on the chart at approximately the time they were posted.

rt_commentaries

  1. Gap down to S3, tested AH low and holding. 1st target of S2 tagged
  2. 1-2-3 buy off S3 neckline should hold for gap fill to start early. BTW, my S3 and other pivot points are based on last Wed, not the one from half day trading.
  3. 10 pt drop with NQ leading to the down side
  4. NQ gap filled
  5. Mini HS on 1 min
  6. Someone tried very hard to stage a move from 76 to 86 AH mid
  7. ORL tagged (1 tick higher so far)
  8. 1-2-3 sell to break the 1st 15 min low + VWAP + current day mid
  9. potential IHS at 75.5 neckline
  10. Short from 77-78 should notice that once 79.5 is taken out, a gap fill to the upside is likely. Be flexible with your opinion (and position)
  11. Today has 2 potential outcomes. More likely – normal continuation day, selloff til close as the mkt failed to recover from the drop. Less likely – reversal day, and that should start by 2:15 or so.
  12. Day high first target. Original intention from this morning 86 is next
  13. Previous day low (Friday) acted as resistance

There are other comments made during the day. You can find the complete listing here for the day.

As explained in other posts, I do not trade full time thus I will not be able to comment on the markets unless I am monitoring the markets I trade at the time.

Going Forward

As suggested by my web programming team and some readers of the site, it is better to post all my real-time commentaries for each trading day in posts separated from the other ones. Thus I will be posting my real-time comments under posts with the prefix “Real-time Commentary …” so that they can be located easily from within the site.

When does this Prefix feature start? Also another request – if it can be implemented easily. How about the inverse of the “Ignore” list – a Show Only list, which would show only the thread with the selected authors participating. So if I select LC, I would see only the threads initiated by LC and those threads where LC participated.

This is the original real-time commentary explanation from way back in the beginning.
All real-time commentaries thread are named that way since.

For the show-only option, will let my guy know.
