The Lawrence Chan Blog

I have diverse interest in many things from science and technology to martial arts and ancient health practices. Obviously, discussion of these topics should be done within my own blog as oppose to keeping them here. Hence my blog is created so that I can have a venue to express my creativity and thoughts on my other interests. For those of you who share similar interests, you can check out my site TheLawrenceChan.com

Due to the sheer volume of articles I have written about trading, many of which are trading related yet not technically in line with what DaytradingBias.com is offering, they have to be split from my blog into yet another site. Hence for my non-technical writings about trading, videos I have curated from various sources that I think are useful for traders and my reviews of trading related products, you can find them at the site Essence of Trading

The reason why I picked the Tai Chi picture above for this page is best explained by my article Tai Chi Traders in a World of Chaos at Essence of Trading.

Below are the old blog posts that were originally posted here. To avoid broken links from other sites, I have decided to keep them here.

Seasonality With Job Seeking

2012 Nov 28 Wed 0:22:45 | by Lawrence

A picture is worth a thousand words. Following is the Google Trend on the word jobs searched across the globe since 2004.

googletrend_jobs_2012Nov

Notice how the search for the word drops consistently near the second half of each year.

Then spike back up in the beginning of each year.

An example of human cyclical behaviour – both fascinating and useful for trading purpose.

Left Over Packing Supplies

2012 Nov 26 Mon 22:28:37 | by Lawrence

Was stuck at the Princess Margaret Hospital over better half of the day.

Saw this in the hospital.

The design is cute but it is not a good sign for the economy.

It is a Halloween themed box for packing Tim Bits (mini donuts). Halloween is over for more than 3 weeks yet the packaging supplies are still not used up at one of the busiest take-out coffee spots in downtown Toronto.

Since Thanksgiving weekend the holiday theme songs are playing everywhere, I thought Tim Hortons would be giving out Christmas themed boxes.

I was wrong and surprised.

Giving Myself A Challenge

2012 Nov 25 Sun 21:50:48 | by Lawrence

Found out this morning the speed up applied to the site has broken the delivery of the ebook pages … bummer!

Many thanks to those who email me about the broken links. I would never even dream of the changes can break the delivery of the pages. Took the better half of the day to fix the problem. I think the fix is for good as we identified the root to the problem earlier today.

I just uploaded the long awaited chapter to the Crash Course series on head and shoulders. Enjoy!

I finally have an estimate of the number of trading books I have collected over the years – slightly more than 500 titles and it is still growing. It will be very interesting if I actually review most of them in coming 2013, or at least the ones that worth mentioning.

It is definitely an interesting challenge to take on.

WTF “van Gogh” Platinum Card …

2012 Nov 23 Fri 19:29:50 | by Lawrence

Sometimes cultural clash can be quite absurd.

I just learned that in Asia there is this credit card named "van Gogh" Platinum Card and a financial institution offering the "van Gogh" money management service …

I understand if you are Asians, you probably do not understand what is wrong.

If you know anything about van Gogh, however, you would find this so sarcastic.

Platinum in Chinese sounds exactly like the words for "money given to those whose closest relative just died".

van Gogh died poor. He never made much money anyway.

Do you want "van Gogh" money management service to manage your money?

If it is a reflection of the quality of those who intend to management your money …

More Site Improvements. Yay!

2012 Nov 22 Thu 22:55:30 | by Lawrence

Having some spare time on hand, I made some changes to the site so that it can now serve web pages 3 to 4 times faster. It is nice to be able to fine tune things this quickly from time to time.

I have reviewed the premium reports and found that the Hot n Cold Reports are not as time sensitive as the other ones. Due to the fact that they are very time consuming to generate and slow down the end of day update significantly, I am moving them to a different time slot so that the other time sensitive reports can be delivered as early as possible. Changes to that will take place over the weekend.

Simple Stock Buying Technique That Improves Performance

Many investors and swing traders would buy a stock outright when they think it is going to go higher. That, however, may not be the best way to establish your long position especially if your performance is measured by percentage. Here is a simple en …

When There Is No Match In History …

I was asked a question in my real-time chatroom about the 3-Day Pattern Odds Reports. Specifically if there is something wrong with the tables for Dow, S&P500, Nasdaq 100 and of course the derivatives (DIA, SPY, QQQ, and futures YM, ES, NQ) as th …
