The Economic Impacts of Ebola Spreading To Major Cities

By Lawrence

Just a short explanation of what to expect if Ebola spreads to major cities.

A smart move by the people is to avoid crowded places with a lot of people. This includes hospitals, shopping malls and theatres. This implies a potentially very bad shopping season this Thanksgiving in cities where Ebola has spread to.

Exactly the same situation has happened before. During the SARS outbreak back in year 2002-2003, retailers and restaurants were pretty much all wiped out in the cities where SARS outbreak happened. It took several years for those cities to recover.

Should the outbreak of Ebola spread to many major cities, the impact on the whole retail sector and consumer services industries will be huge which in turn will negatively affect the stock prices of these companies.

In short, in coming few weeks how Ebola spreads will have serious financial implications for many retailers.
